Explore the stunning landscape of New Zealands South Island with two of the best in the business

Join us on an epic roadie of New Zealands South Island in Spring.

NZ Spring Workshop Phototour

The Mackenzie Basin is beautiful at any time of year but in late November when Spring comes into its own it really makes a statement.

Photographing the flowering Lupins (spelt Lupines in America) is a definite ‘must do’ and we will include many opportunities for capturing the landscape as its having its spring party.

We’ll be exploring Alpine lakes, Majestic mountains and of course these dramatic Wildflowers on this adventure in some of New Zealands most incredible and diverse landscapes.

We'll be going up high to view things from above from Mt Cook to Mitre Peak in Milford Sound and we'll take you to awesome discoveries in between where we will explore Tekapo, the MacKenzie Country, Wanaka, Arrowtown and Queenstown.

From first light to the last of the dying day and into the night we will chase that special light, the incredible reflections, the intense colours of Spring and the clear starry skies that turn moments into photographic magic.

We will work with you to develop your photography skills.  From using your camera in manual mode, ISO, aperture and shutter speed to composing your shot, correctly exposing your images, long exposures, astrophotography and editing.

We start in Queenstown and will pick you up from the airport or your accomodation and meet all together at 1pm.  If you're flying into Queenstown be prepared for one of the most spectacular flights of your life!  The Queenstown vibe is unlike any other.  Surrounded by majestic mountains and on the shores of Lake Wakatipu it's the adventure capital of NZ. You can jump off things, dive into things, ski, bike and hike things.  There's something for everyone here and it's a photographers dream location.

Just down the road is Arrowtown. A quirky little Historic Gold Mining Town that when surrounded by snow capped mountains is a pure delight

Wanaka - home to the famous 'Wanaka Tree' is one of the most picturesque towns in the South Island.  It's a small township flanked by a magnificent lake and giant mountains.  It's the gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park, a wilderness of Glaciers, Beech Forests, waterfalls and Alpine Lakes.

Mackenzie Country

In Spring the Mackenzie region is spectacular. It's surrounded by impressive mountain ranges, beautiful lakes and rivers and of course those famous canals.  This is where the lupins often show off the most and we will take every opportunity to capture them here

Aoraki/Mt Cook

Aoraki/Mt Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand at 3724 metres but Mt Cook National Park has 19 peaks over 3000 metres in total.

Be prepared to see the incredible water colour of Lake Pukaki.  The glacial feed to the lake gives it a stunning powder blue colour which is created by glacial flour, the extremely fine ground rock particles from the glaciers. The skies here are perfect for Astro.

The walk into Hooker Lake takes you over three very safe swing bridges, perfect for photography.

Southern Alps

Cromwell is home to the famous Cromnut (we'll preorder as you don't want to miss out on trying one of these). The Gibbston Valley boasts many wonderful wineries. We can stop here if you want to stock up.

Lake Wakatipu is the third largest lake in New Zealand and at 84 km long, it’s also the longest. It's name comes from Maori, Whakatipu wai-māori, which could mean “growing bay” or “bay of spirits”, depending on the translation of the historic Southern dialect. The road to Glenorchy  is spectacular and runs alongside the lake.
